Activities Required Prior to Simulation: Pre-Simulation Questions1.Discuss conditions that predispose patients to Anaphylactic Reaction. 2.What are the clinical findings and signs and symptoms of Anaphylactic Reaction? 3.What are the nursing responsibilities related to the care of the patient with Anaphylactic Reaction?
1. Predisposing factor to anaphylactic reaction:
A. Certain medications such as penicillin
B. Insect stings
C. Food such as shellfish, Milk, eggs
D latex
E.In some cases exercise and aerobic activities such as running can trigger anaphylaxis.
F. Idiopathic risk factors
G. Previous anaphylactic reaction
H. Allergy or asthma
I. Family history of anaphylaxis.
2. Signs and symptoms of anaphylactic reaction:
Symptoms of anaphylactic reaction occures usually within minutes of exposure to allergens.
Hives and itching, flushed or pale skin
Hypotension
Airway constriction and swollen tongue and throat
Weak and rapid pulse
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
Dizziness or fainting
3. Nursing responsibility for anaphylactic care include:
A. Monitor patient's airway- to assess sensation of narrowed airway.
B. Monitor oxygenation status: check oxygen saturation and blood gas analysis
C. Observe breathing: Advice the patient to breath slowly and deeply
D. Proper positioning of client: provide an upright position to promote oxygenation by maximum chest expansion
E. Activities: Encourage adequate rest and limit activity as client's tolerance level.
F. Assess haemodynamics: Parameters such as central venous pressure, cardiac output, pulmonary artery pressure as required
G. Monitor urine output: renal system compensate for hypotension by retaining water,so note for oliguria.
H. Plan for long term needs.
