Therapy:
It is the treatment of psychological disorders by psychological methods.
Psychotherapy:
It is the use of psychological methods to improve a person’s psychological health by resolving their problematic behaviour, thought and emotions and thereby improve their social well-being. Approaches to psychotherapy falls into 5 categories:-

  • Psychoanalysis: It focuses on treating problematic behaviours, feelings, and thoughts.
  • Behaviour therapy: It treats abnormal behaviour.
  • Cognitive therapy: It treats dysfunctional thinking.
  • Humanistic therapy: It emphasizes people’s capacity to make choices rationally.
  • Integrative therapy: It is the blending of elements from different approaches.

Therapy for problematic thoughts, actions and feelings:
Cognitive behaviour therapy which is a combination of cognitive therapy and behavioural therapy is the best therapy for the above mentioned cases. It focuses on thoughts, emotions and actions. It explains how each one of this have an effect on the other. It can be used for treating depression, anxiety and phobias where emotions, thoughts and actions are connected.
This therapy is based on the idea that, the way we think about a situation can affect our thoughts and actions. In this therapy, the therapist identifies the distorted thinking patterns that cause the difficulties; and enable them to change it in the future. It mainly focuses on the present; and might analyse your past in some situations. It is helpful to cope with physical health problems such as chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain and so on.
