under what condition is erythroblastosis fetalis? why is the condition given this name?
erythroblastosis fetalis is the condition where the fetal red blood cells get damaged by the pregnant mother immune cells leads to baby with sever anemia and some cases even death. this condition mainly caused by the incompatibility of Rh factor. when the mother with Rh-negative impregnated by Rh-positive father, the result can be Rh-positive baby. in that case the baby Rh antigen treated as a foreign by the mother immune system and the mother immune system raise antibodies against the baby Rh antigen. usually there is no issues in the first delivery, but if the mother conceive again then these cells attacks the blood cells of Rh positive baby leads to death of fetus.
