4. What is your understanding of the phrase ‘You must take responsibility for your own health?’ Using the World Health Organization (WHO) (2010) Global recommendations on physical activity for health, list and explain 4 ways you can adapt to make sure you and your students stay healthy.

Everyone should take responsibility for their own health. This is possible only when people include physical activity in their daily routine.  Globally, 6% of the mortality is due to physical inactivity. Physical inactivity levels increasing day by day throughout the world resulting in severe health disorders including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, hypertension and other health disparities. Regular physical activity reduces the risk of getting diseases.

Ways to adapt physical activity:

  1. Physical activity needed based on age. For children whose age between 5-17 years, they need to do moderate to vigorous intensity workout for 60 minutes. People who are between 18 and 64 years of age and people who are morethan 65, they need to workout for 150 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity workout.
  2. Adapt the national and global standards of physical activity. With this people will get to know how to do, how much time to do and other things.
  3. Schedule proper timetables and do regular activities.
  4. Supportive policies in improving and encouraging physical activities. These policies do promote importance of physical activities in maintaining good health.
