In a random sample of patients with oropharyngeal cancer ; the researcher wishes to determine if there is a relationship between gender and the type of oropharyngeal cancer . The study has an alpha of 0.05 and a P value = 0.01.
Question 1:
what is the dependent variable?
Q2; what would be an appropriate test for testing for null hypothesis? Explain?
Q3 : what decision should be made about the null hypothesis? Explain?
Q4 : If this decision is not correct , what potential error could it be??
1) dependent variable = gender
Independent variable = oropharyngeal cancer
2) we use chi square test
null and alternate hypothesis
H0: there is no relationship between gender and type of oropharyngeal cancer
H1: there is relationship between gender and type of oropharyngeal cancer.
3) since p value = 0.01
P value is less than level of significance so we reject the null hypothesis.
4) If this decision is not correct type I error could be occured.
Because type I error = probability of rejecting the null hypothesis when its irue
