A. A plant of genotype CCdd is crossed to ccDD. An F1 of that cross is testcrossed to ccdd. If the genes are unlinked, the percentage of C_D_ progeny of that cross will be _____%

B. A plant of genotype CCdd is crossed to ccDD. An F1 of that cross is testcrossed to ccdd. If the genes are so tightly linked that no recombination occurs between them, the percentage of C_D_ progeny of that cross will be _____%

Solutions

Expert Solution

Case I: When the genes are unlinked (they will follow mendels law of inheritance and will produce recombinant type other than parental types)

A test cross between CcDd (F1 ) and ccdd (double recessive parent) will produce a ratio of 1:1:1:1 as shown in the image below. Hence the percentage of Progeny C_D_ of this cross will be 25 %.

Case II: When genes are completely linked (there will be no crossing over between the genes and therefore only parental type will be formed and no recombinant type will appear.)

A test cross between CcDd (F1) and ccdd will produce a ratio of 1:1 and the progenies with C_D_ genotype will be 50 %.

A tomato plant with large leaves and round fruits was crossed to a plant with small leaves and oblong fruits. The F1 consisted of plants with large leaves; about half of these plants made round fruits and the other half made oblong fruits. Two F1 plants (one with round fruits and one with oblong fruits) were then analyzed through further crossing. The results were: Cross F1 plant #1 with round fruits × parent with round fruits F1 plant #1 with...

A peony plant with red petals was crossed with another plant having streaky petals. A geneticist states that 70% of the offspring resulting from this cross will have red flowers. To test this, 80 seeds from this cross were collected and germinated and 46 plants had red petals. (a) Is there sufficient evidence at the 0.02 significance level to indicate the proportion of the hybrid plants with red petals differs from 70%? Use the P-value method in your test (b)...
