Mr. Kwakye Abayie is a distributor of detergents in Okineshie market. He has a wider range of customers from all parts of Ghana he supplies the detergents to. Mr. Abayie started his distribution business ten years ago as a retailer and eventually grew to become a successful distributor. He has suppliers in China who supply him with all the detergents he sells. These suppliers were linked to him by his friend called Hanson in 2016 and Mr. Abayie has been dealing with them ever since. They normally send the detergent to Mr. Abayie through shipment after he has placed his order online or sometimes he goes to China to place the order himself. Five years ago, Mr. Abayie opened a current account with Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited (Stand Chart). In the first two years, he deposited GH1000 every month to keep the account running. After three years of operating the current account, Mr. Abayie opened a savings account, in addition to the current account, and he used the savings accounts to save up money from the proceeds of his business. He saved up GH5,000 every day in the first twelve months and then tripled the amount afterwards. He is one of the prestigious customers of Stand Chart. Few weeks ago, the Bank of Ghana sent a list of some suspected money launders to Stand Chart, requesting for detailed information about them. Mr. Abayie was one of the culprit. His full details was sent to Bank of Ghana for further investigations which later led to his arrest. He was released on bail the following day and he went to his branch to find out from the manager the reason why they did not seek his consent before given his information to a third party. The manager explained that they had no choice but to comply with the order that came in. Mr. Abayie became furious and threatened to close all his bank accounts. He made it clear to the bank that he was going to take a legal action against them for releasing his personal information to a third party without seeking his consent.
