1. Identify and briefly explain the four levels of intercultural communication competence. Find or create an example of each level.

2. How are intercultural relationships portrayed in our media and pop culture? Try to find a specific example that demonstrates an intercultural couple and explain their portrayal. For example, are they positively portrayed? Negatively? How? How do they interact with other couples in their environment?

Four level of inter cultural competence:
1.Unconscious incompetence
This level is also called the blissful ignorance. Because At this level you are not aware of cultural differences. Due to cultural ignorance one may be crating culural mistakes and easily misinterpret behavior of peoples or groups.
For example: making noise while eating noodle is a good manner in China but in England it is considered as a bad manner.
2. Conscious incompetence
In this level you starts realizing the existence of cultural differences but unable to identify/understand the size and impact of them.
For example: bringing food in the graveyard is the sign of showing respect to ancester but it is considered as a very bad manner in European countries.

3. Conscious competence
In this level you starts to understand and trying to adjust your behaviour according to surrounding culture.
For example: saying Namaste to Indian people instead of hello.
4.Unconscious competence
In this level you became familiar to cultural differences and act to them accordingly in natural way without any efforts.
