What would happen to the activity of cdc2 kinase if the cdc25 phosphatase were mutated so that it was permanently inactivated?
Cyclin B/ cdc2 complex function at the time of mitosis of cell cycle . If every thing is perfect in cell cycle than cells from G 2 phase cross G2/ M check point and enter in to M phase. Previous to it cyclin B/ cdc2 was inactivated . But once cell enter in to M ( mitosis) phase , this complex need to be activated to carry out mitosis. For activation of this complex, phosphate group must be attached to activation site and removed form the inhibitory site. Both the function required to get Cyclin B/ cdc2 complex activation. Here cdc25 act as a phosphatase which removes phosphate from inhibitory site and help in fully activation of cyclin B/ cdc2 complex. This cell enter in to M phase
If cdc 25 get inactivated or mutated , then inhibitory phosphate from cyclin B/ cdc 2 would not have been removed this lead to inactivated stated of Mphase CDK and cell will not able to complete Mitodis . It will not able to start mitosis process of cell cycle.
