Why is U.S. health care so costly? Why have almost all past cost controls failed? What are the best ways to contain health care costs, and how can we do so without harming access or quality?
U.S. health care is so costly because of rising price of the services which contributes most to the rising healthcare spending in the United States. Also most of the amount is spent on specific conditions, for instance, diabetes type 2., Outpatient treatment also contributes to rising health care cost. Increased spending on pharmaceutical drugs is another important reason of rising health care cost in the United States.
Past controls have failed because of lack of proper regulation by the government which has resulted in spike of health care services by the private players for the consumers.
The best way to control health care cost in the United States include allowing the federal government to negotiate on drug prices which can help in reducing drug prices, Americans should be allowed to buy drugs in Canada where health care cost is low as compared to the United States and use of generics should be encouraged when patents expire.
