What is the difference between statistically and clinically significant research

What is the difference between statistically and clinically significant research

Solutions

Expert Solution

A statistically significance in research is the relationship between 2 or more variables and its effects.A p - value of 5 % or lower is considered as statistical significant research study and if the p - value is large the research study is statistically insignificant. Statistical significance in research provides evidence about the plausibility of null hypothesis ,which hypothesizes that there is nothing more than random chance at work in data. Statistical significance is the ability to state that the observed difference in an outcome is not due to chance alone. Statistically significance . research is necessary for clinical significance but says nothing about the magnitude of effect.

Clinically significant research means the findings of the study is useful with patients. Clinical significance in research is the probabilities of benefit and harm .A clinical significant difference is clinically relevant and thus merits subsequent action.

Large sample + large effect = statistically significant and clinical significant

Large sample + small effect = statistically significant ,may not be clinically significant.

Small sample + large effect = maybe clinical significant but does not show statistically significance.

A researcher is interested in understanding if there is a statistically significant difference between people in different marital status in terms of their level of general happiness.  Marital status was measured as follows: 1. Married, 2. Widowed, 3. Divorced, 4. Separated, and 5. Never married.  General happiness was measured as follows: 1. Very happy, 2. Pretty happy, and 3. Not too happy.         To test his hypothesis, the researcher ran the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and he obtained the following output table. ANOVA...

QUESTION 10 A researcher finds that there is a statistically significant difference between men and women when it comes to hours a day they spend on social media. Specifically, men spend more time on social media than women. What does "statistical significance" mean in this case? The difference in number of hours spent on social media between men and women is not random The results of the study will make a significant contribution to existing research on the use of...
