You are working in the Emergency Department when EMS brings in a 3 year old struck by a drunk driver while riding his tricycle in the street. Despite all efforts by you and your trauma team, the child dies of his injuries. Discuss how you would speak with the family about the child's death - is there anyone you would involve - any type of referrals? This is the second child that has died in your department in 2 weeks. Discuss how you, as a nurse, would handle this additional stress.

This is really a very stressful situation to manage as a nurse .loss of child , can't accept by parents at all even it is true.

Here two child's are died the same department in a 2week difference. It is really out of control not only for family but also for the nurse as a person. But we have to handle this situation when we are a nurse position.

We can see some key point to get calm before we gonna to talk.

• Focus on our goal.
• Take deep breath( it makes our brain and mind to get calm.)
• Laugh first and hardest,(this helps to relief stress.)
• Talk to someone else (this will help to relieve tension and allow to talk more calmly,also can get some health advice from the listener.)
• Set a realistic objective. (Here adjust our expectations, may be your discussion will end in a compromise.)
• Listen( don't be so focused on trying to get your point across that you forget to listen.)
• Practice positive body language. The minor alteration of our body language will make feel others that we are actively listening,.
• Know when to keep silent.when issue arise take time to discuss .if it is unavoidable take few minutes to organize your thoughts in writing.

Always focus on our goal .here when we explain they may be accept it or not .we should understand their feelings and be calm to listen them .may be nurse can get her friend with them for support because we don't know the reaction of family members.
