think of some room arrangement ideas OR material adaptations to improve accessibility and usage for children with disabilities. First, give a detailed description of changes you would make to the classroom in at least 3 different areas or to at least 3 different materials to accommodate a child with special needs. After your description please answer the following questions about your changes.
What type of child would your accommodations be supporting?
Were the ideas your own or did you get them from somewhere (which is ok, but put name of book or link)?
Why do you feel these changes would best support the type of child you are looking to support?
Do you think that children without special needs would have a problem with the changes?
Are there costs associated with your changes? If so, where could the funds come from (note we don’t just have a million dollars sitting around)?
Why should someone else in class review try your ideas?
I would take up the children with learning disabilities, slow learners let us say. The classroom would be much different, instead of academics or numbers chart - behavioural charts would be more emphasized such as manners, eating habits, greetings to others etc. Then inseatd of class teacher in front, a round classroom would be more good. Or students seating in groups and each table having a teacher or voulanteer. Then various motor skills games - which improves their vision, thinking would be taken. Even sports activity would be there, to improve concentration and physical strength. I have a friend whose child is slow learner, his school takes care of most of the above mentioned things.
Buying some vision games etc would be difficuilt as they are expensive, hence targetting some corporate by advt on pamplet and keeping a fundbox in canteen would help in gathering money. Or asking schools to provide monetary support for slow learners is also a good option.
