This chapter and assignment further explore standards for
interoperability. The HIMSS definition of interoperability states,
“The ability of two or more systems or components to exchange
information and to use the information that has been exchanged.”
HIM professionals often are the subject matter experts when a
question about standards arises and need to help guide the IT
analysts and workers at their organization. An example from a
recent conference I attended: “The IT professionals will say, we
can make that...
What is the usefulness of standards from the
perspective of interoperability of systems manufactured by
different entities? What are the advantages of "proprietary"
systems offered by some manufacture's that do not conform to
industry-wide standards?
7. Explain how industry standards for interoperability of
electronic healthcare records can enable secure and private access
to patient data. Please provide references
Standards are specifications that have been approved by a
standards development organization (SDO). Standards
development is an ongoing process that relies on consensus-building
among public and private organization members formally organized as
Standard Development Organization (SDO). Standards are frequently
modified and new standards are constantly developed.
Identify what are some methods that the HIM professional uses to
stay current with changes in the standards applicable to HIM
profession.
8. Describe how medical information exchange and applied
healthcare interoperability standards for healthcare record
communications can increase efficiency of inter-departmental
communications, between general practitioners and specialists, and
between providers and regulatory agencies. Please provide
references
What are the primary challenges for interoperability?
Discuss an organization that is working to promote interoperability
within the clinical environment. Describe one of their initiatives,
its benefits and challenge, and its impact on the delivery of
care.
As a Gen Z and future leader, how do you see the sustainable
development goals (SDGs)? Determine small acts that you can do to
contribute to some goals (please select at least 3 goals).
