You are studying three linked genes in snapdragons. The flower color locus is in the center. There are 11.3 cM between the flower color locus and the plant height locus. There are 10.7 cM between the flower color locus and the leaf type locus. The coefficient of coincidence is 0.8. Pure-breeding tall, red-flowered plants with fuzzy leaves were crossed to pure-breeding dwarf, blue-flowered plants with smooth leaves. The F1 were testcrossed. Calculate the proportion of the testcross progeny that are expected to be dwarf with blue flowers. Round properly to 4 decimal digits.

Solutions

Expert Solution

It is a triple cross whi ch is tangled & Tough to solve

So you first need to draw a chart the names & distances between them

First, the offspring need to be arranged
into reciprocal pairs of no crossovers,

Because there is a higher probability of
having no crossovers, the two
genotypes with the highest number of
offspring are NCO (no crossover) .
There are two sets of SCO, and the two
with the lowest offspring will be DCO.

Next you need to determine which order
of alleles on the chromosome will result in
the DCO.

Now how to calculate the distance

Distance influences the probability of
crossover.
• The larger the distance, the more likely
crossover will occur.
• The shorter the distance, crossover will occur
less frequently.
• To determine the distance, add the number of
times crossover occurred between the two loci.
SCO+DCO/ Total Offspring * 100=
number of map units between genes.

1.      In snapdragons, red flower color (CR) is incompletely dominant to white flower color (CW). The heterozygote has pink flowers. Normal broad leaves (LB) are incompletely dominant to narrow, grass-like leaves, (LN). The heterozygote has an intermediate leaf width. If a red-flowered, narrow-leaved snapdragon is crossed with a white-flowered broad-leaved one, what will be the phenotypes in the F1and F2generations, and what will be the proportions of the different classes?        (Draw a branching diagram to provide the answer)

Flower color in Orcish Thimbleweed (Anemone sarumani) is controlled by two genes. At the G locus, red flowers (G) is dominant to slate gray (g). At the W locus, colored flowers (W) is dominant to colorless (w). Plants with the genotype G-W- are red, ggW- are slate gray, and --ww are white. A true-breeding plant with red flowers is crossed with a true-breeding plant with white flowers, producing F1 offspring with slate gray flowers. What is the expected phenotypic ratio...

In a flowering plant species, snapdragons, variation in flower color is determined by a single gene. RR genotype individuals are red, Rr genotype individuals are pink, and rr genotype individuals are white. In a cross between two heterozygous (Rr) individuals, the expected ratio of red:pink:white-flowered offsprings is 1:2:1. Biologists did two cross experiments, and ask whether the results differ significantly from the expected. Part 1: The first cross experiment ends up with 40 offsprings, including 10 red, 21 pink, and...

In Mendel's pea plants, the genes that code for flower color, seed color and seed shape are on 3 different chromosomes. For flower color, purple is dominant over white, yellow seeds are dominant over green and round seeds are dominant over wrinkled seeds. If you crossed two parents who were heterozygous for all 3 genes, how many purple flowered, round and yellow seeded plants would you expect in the offspring generation? correct answer is 27/64 please show work thank you

In peas the flower color and pollen length genes are very close together on the same chromosome. Purple flowers (P are dominant to white (p), and long pollen (L) is dominant to short pollen (l). A true breeding variety of peas with purple flowers and short pollen is crossed to a true breeding variety with white flowers and long pollen.
