Diabetes affects approximately 25.8 million people in the United States, and is the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S. Go to American Diabetes Association website and take the risk test. Diabetes mellitus is a disease which is caused by deficiency or inadequate action of pancreatic hormone called insulin, which help to maintain adequate blood glucose levels. There are two type of diabetes type 1 and type2. In type 1 there is no production of insulin it is genetical but in type 2 there may be inadequate production or inadequate action of insulin. According to American diabetes association risk assessment which includes one person age, gender,family history,blood pressure,physical activity and weight based on these values they prepare score , if it more than 5 then we are at high risk of diabetes type2
My value was was below 5, so I was so comfortable and because my awareness of diabetes I control my weight and do regular exercise. I learned from this is that regular exercise , adequate weight , proper diet and controlling other conditions like hypertension will help to reduce diabetes.
My advice to loved ones is that diabetes is a fatal disease if kept untreated it may lead to various serious diseases of internal organs. Diabetes mellitus is 7th major cause of death in US. The controllable factors in diabetes are your proper diet,proper weight,regular physical activity will reduce the risk of developing diabetes mellitus.
