To what degree is Brexit driven by identity issues, attitudes to perceived authoritarianism or reaction against neo-liberal economic failure?
Brexit is driven by different issues
and most prominent issues are the identity issues and the lack of
trust in the neo=liberal economic policies as well as the failure
of global organizations.
United Kingdom has been the leading economy, not only in the
Europe, but also in the world. Such leadership has been pegged back
due to the stagnant European Union, causing an Identity crisis
among the people and supporters of Brexit. The stagnancy in the
European Union, courtesy of the laggard behavior of some of the
economies and financial crisis in some other economies are pulling
back the ambition of the UK. So, there was an identity issue played
a major role in going for the Brexit.
Another important issue was the lack of trust upon the world
organizations and neo-liberal policies that contributed less to the
growth of the UK and took away more from the UK in the name of
restructuring the other nations of the European Union. People and
supporting institutions of the UKA, took it as none of their
business to contribute and rectify the wrongdoing of the others.
So, Brexit succeeded.
It has less to do with the authoritarianism as UK also wants
international trade with nations, but not at the cost of
compromising with the interests of their own people. So,
Authoritarianism was a limited role to play in Brexit.
