we are told a newborn weights 152 ounces . How much is the weight in Grams?              Using ratio and proportion then Using dimensional analysis

Solutions

Expert Solution

The given problem gives the value such as weight in ounce of newborn =152 ounces , then we have to solve this problem by two methods ratio proportion and dimensional analysis

First we use ratio proportion method , for that we need an additional information that is conversion factor this question we have the conversion factor its constant value always here that is , 1ounce= 28.349523125grams. Then we have to use ratio proportion method we can see 1ounce=28.349523125 grams then assume 152 ounces = x

Then we have find out 'x' then 1: 28.349523125 =15 : x   that is , 1 ounce = 28.349523125 grams   152 ounces = x then we have to cross multiply that ounces get cancelled   we will get x value x= 152× 28.349523125 = 4309.127515 grams. it's the answer

Next we will do it with dimensional analysis here also we check conversion factor using that we have to write in an another way that is 1ounce=28.349523125gm then   question start from 152ounce then we have to write 152ounces ( 28.349523125 grams ÷  1ounce ) ounces get cancelled then answer will be same that is 152× 28.349523125 grams= 4309.127515grams here we use   1 ounce as denominator because question starting with ounce value 152ounces. Note : if question ask  in reverse order like a newborn having 152 grams weight and convert in to ounce then we have to take 28.349523125grams as denominator. This is dimensional analysis method.
