Some youths in Lusaka’s Chilenje Township who intend to become entrepreneurs by way of setting up a poultry business, have been offered a grant by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) on condition that they prepare a simple document stating the key requirements of their proposed business. Different categories of resources that the youth will require in order to start their poultry business:

1. Financial resources:

In order to start any form of business, there is finance to run the business and to purchase the required equipment and assets. Eg: In order to start a poultry business, financial resources like cash or bank balance will be required in order to purchase hen, cage, daily food, etc.

2. Human resources: human resources will be required to run and maintain the poultry business. Eg: The business will require persons like managers, supervisors, drivers(for transportation), and other staff to handle the birds.

3. Physical resources: the business will require physical resources like tools and equipment to maintain the poultry business. Eg: they will require cages, feeders and drinkers, baskets, nests, etc. to run the business.

4. Educational resources: These include technical know-how and knowledge that are required to run the poultry business. Eg: knowledge regarding egg production, handling eggs and birds, their vaccination, etc. will be required.

5. Emotional resources: Emotional resources include additional supports for maintaining the poultry business, eg: the poultry business can require professional consultancy, teamwork, and coordination for success.
