1-Medical reversal is rare. True or false? Explain your answer
Answer: Medical Reversal isn’t a rare in occurrence
This phenomenon occurs when a novel clinical trial contradicts with the conventional practice. This is due to the fact that the new practice may be more superiors in terms of design, better controls, endpoints or size. For instance,
· Conventional CAST trial and novel anti-arrhythmics (1C) post-myocardial infarction
· Conventional COURAGE trial and novel common stenting for stable coronary disease
The negative perspective of medical reversal include the adverse effects to the patient that receive this intervention when this practice was assumed to be more effective and safer and a decreasing interest of public in medicine.
When the famous “New England Journal of Medicine” was reviewed for one year (2011), the results indicated that 13% consist of medical reversals. Moreover, a study performed in 2013 on medical journals indicated that 40% data showed medical reversals. Furthermore, in 2019, three famous medical journals were reviewed consisting of almost three thousand randomized controlled trials, approximately 400 of the trials comprises of medical reversals. The most prevalent complication among the reversals is cardiovascular disease.
