“The irresponsible ways of exploiting environmental resources coupled with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in Ghana have exposed how poorly, we manage our environment as a nation is in its entirety” (Adam & Adjei & Oppong, 2020). With reference to this statement, discuss five (5) achievable steps that can be taken to sustainably manage the nation’s resources.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The steps that can be taken to sustainably manage the national resources are :

  • Conserve the productive resources : including agricultural land, water supplies, skilled workforce, infrastructure and maintain soils. We should give importance to the agricultural sector more so it can contribute more to the future. Farmers must be protected from volatility.
  • Produce more with fewer inputs : Resources for agriculture should be used more efficiently. Technology should be improvised by decreasing the use of fertilizers. Thus reducing financial and environmental costs.
  • Encourage innovation and best practice : This can help the agricultural sectors to stay competitive. Biotechnology could contribute to more agricultural production systems.
  • Reduce demand through out the whole food chain : consumption of meat, dairy products, eggs and fish is about twice the global average in nations. The amount of food waste that is generated in every year should be reduced.
  • Align bioenergy policies with strategies on food production and biodiversity : policies promoting renewable energy have increased the amount of biofuel produced from food crops.
