Rosacea and Psoriasis: Rosacea affects over 16 million Americans, and over 7 million have Psoriasis. What are rosacea and psoriasis? How are they similar and different? What are the causes and the treatments for each?
Both rosacea and psoriasis are skin related problems affecting skin producing scaly plaques on skin.
Psoriasis results due to increased rate of division of cells in lower layers ibcreading their turn over number which pushes the upper layers up producing plaques and silver scales on skin. Skin cells like up on the surface of skipn producing scaly plaques .
Rosacea is a skin problem which causes the skin on the face to become red and irritated producing psutules or papules.
Psoriasis can affect on part of body such as feet, hands, arms,legs , or even face but rosacea on the other hand affects only face especially nose and cheeks.
The exact cause of psoriasis is unclear, but it is believed to be caused due to abnormal.functioning of immune system. T cells stimulate skin cells to divide more than normal which leads to producing silvery plagues over the surface of skin with itching. Stress, alcholism, certain medications and infections are known to exaggerate the condition. Rosacea is beleived to be caused by immune response to certain substances or factors in the body which produces rashes on the face. The factors may include a bacterium, an intestinal parasite, a bug or mite infestation or a skin protien, sun exposure, extra spicy food, stress or alcohol consumption.
Both the conditions are chronic and can go and come back showing the recurrence. But their are certain medications which are known to control the symptoms of both conditions. These medications include;
Psoriasis: coal tar, salicylic acid and urea ointments which can clear palgues.
Acretrin is known to control the skinnturn over number.
Light therapy.
Rosacea: Topical and oral antibiotics along with corticosteroid ointments to control the skin inflammation and psutules.
