Now there is need to to understand the cloting factors. Cloting factors helps in caogulation process that is changing liquid form blood to gel form and leads to blood clot.

The laboratory tests that can be used to monitor the anticaogulation therapies are

Test name Identify Normal ranges
PT blood test (Prothombin test)/INR (international normalized ratio)
  • To detect any kind of bleeding disease or cloting abnormality or blood clot.
  • It check number of second to take blood clot.
  • It also detect how well the extrinsic cloting factors (VII) and common pathway cloting ( I,II,V, and X)
  • INR is calculated base on the result of PT
  • it determine the effectiveness of anticaogulant therapy
  • It is used to assess wafarin/caumarin effectiveness
  • The value will be increase more than the normal range for pateint taking anticaogulant drug

10-12 seconds/

INR- 1-2

PPT ( Partial prothrombin time)
  • It help to assess the intrinsic cloting factor (VIII,IX,XI,XII) and common pathway cloting factor (I,II,V,VIII)
  • It determine the effectiveness of anticaogulant therapy
  • it is used to assess heparin therapy effectiveness
  • The result will be incresase for patient who are taking anticaogulate medication.
