15. The prescriber writes the following order on the electronic medical record, 1L D5LR to infuse at 85mL/hr. The nurse has an IV tubing set with a drop factor 15 gtt/mL. Calculate the gtt/min for this IV.

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANS 1 Volume- 500ml

Time- 3hrs = 180 minutes

Flow rate= Total volume (in ml) / Time ( in minutes) x 60

that is , 500 / 180 x 60= 166.67 ml per hour

ANS 2   Patient weight in lbs = 195

equation > WEIGHT IN lbs / 2.2046 = weight in KG

ie, 195 / 2.2046 = 88.4 kg

Ans 3 VOLUME= 1000 ml

FLOW RATE = 85 ML / hr

drop factor = 15 gtt/ml

Time = total volume ( in ml) / Flow rate x 60

ie, 1000 / 85 x 60 = 705 min

gtt/ min( drops per minute ) = Total volume (in ml ) / time ( min) x drop factor

ie, 1000 / 705 x 15 = 21.3 gtt per minute

But, it is a good thing I am extremely organized and rewrite almost everything whenever someone gives me information. I...
