Calculate the ml/hr infusion rates , round answers to the nearest tenth ml, mcg or mg; A provider orders isoproterenol 5 mcg/min IV : The IV bag contains 1mg isoproterenol in 200 ml D5W
Amount of isoproterenol to be given per min = 5mcg.
Amount of isproteronol given in 1 hour =5 mcg ×60=300 mcg = 0.3 mg.
Concentration of isoproterenol in IV bag = 1/200= 0.005 mg /ml.
Infusion rate in ml /hour = amount of volume given in 1 hour= amount of volume of drug to dispatch 0.3mg of drug in circulation.
Amount of fluid = amount of drug / concentration of drug
=0.3mg/0.005mg/ml=60 ml
Rate of drug infusion is 60 ml per hour.
