Solutions

Expert Solution

A ) Airborne infection- 1. Caused by inhaling airborne material carrying microbial contaminants

Airborne infections like flu happens by inhaling the airborn pathogens. This type of infection is also called as droplet infection. This disease spreads by coughing, sneezing etc.

B) Asepsis- 9. Prevention of microbial contamination-

It is a medical term. maintenance of asepsis reduces chance of spread of pathogen to the un infected person being treated

C) Decontamination- 3 Disinfection or sterilization of contaminated articles

Decontamination involves removal of not only biologcal organisms but also any harmful abiotic contaminants like metal ions, UV radiation etc.

D) Infection- 8. Disease caused by pathogen transfer-

Infection happens when a pathogenic organism invades the host successfully. It happens due to at least transient failure of immune system to stop the pathogenic invasion. Ex- Tuberculosis by iinfection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

E) Disinfection -2. Process to kill or remove pathogenic microorganism (not spores)

Disinfection simply reduces the microbial load. It does not removes all life forms. For example there are permissible limits of certain microbes. Such microbes only become problematic after thein count increases more than permissible limit. We achieve disifection of water by adding chlorine.

F) Viable microorganisms- 10. Organism capable of multiplication

Ability to divide is extremely important for a cell to remain viable. Like spores are viable. They may not devide right now but once favourable condition comes it will start dividing

G) Sterilization- 4. Process to kill/remove all microorganisms including spores and viruses-

Sterilization causes complete killing of all life forms including spores. We achieve sterilization by several methods like autoclaving, fltering etc.
