You are in charge of designing a catapult that must launch a rock of mass m using a single spring that can only be compressed a distance x. The catapult’s target is located a distance L away from the catapult, but there is a wall of height L/3 located halfway between the catapult and the target. Determine the smallest spring constant (and the corresponding launch angle) that will allow you to hit the target. (You can make the simplifying assumption that x is very small compared to L.)

You are an engineer in charge of designing a new generation of elevators for a prospective upgrade to the Empire State Building. Before the state legislature votes on funding for the project, they would like you to prepare a report on the benefits of upgrading the elevators. One of the numbers that they have requested is the time it will take the elevator to go from the ground floor to the 102nd floor observatory. They are unlikely to approve the...

A water tunnel is mined through a mudstone rock mass at a depth of 200 m. The rock mass consists of three fracture sets. One set is the bedding planes; these are highly weathered, slightly rough surfaces and are continuous with an orientation of 180/10. The first number is the dip direction which is an azimuth measure from the North. Dip direction is measured 90° clockwise from the strike. The second number is the dip. The second set of fractures...

Suppose that a particle with charge q and mass m is initially at the origin with zero velocity in the presence of external electric and magnetic fields given by E = (Ex, 0, Ez), B = (0, 0, Bz). (1) Find x(t) and draw the trajectory the particle follows in space.

A boy decides to toss a rock over a cliff. If the mass of the rock is 0.5 kg and he tosses it horizontally with a velocity of 10 m/s, how long will it take the rock to hit the water if the cliff where he is standing is 175 m above the ocean? What is the magnitude of its velocity when it hits?

For a catapult project I must make a MATLAB code that should make use of the projectile motion equations so for a given input range R (horizontal distance from the catapult to the target), the code outputs the necessary velocity and firing angle of the catapult. What is the code for this? I am lost.

For a catapult project I must make a MATLAB code that should make use of the projectile motion equations so for a given input range R (horizontal distance from the catapult to the target), the code outputs the necessary velocity and firing angle of the catapult. I must be able to input ranges: 7ft, 8ft and 9ft and the output of the code should give me the possible velocities and theta of the catapult.
