Name a suture device currently on the market that is used in clinical use. Explain the use of the device and mechanism of failure from the device, i.e what are some problems with the device and how can it be solved.
LARIAT Loop Applicator
The LARIAT Loop Applicator is a one-time use suture transfer and
deployment equipment which consists of a previously tied polyester
suture loop. A central lumen inside the LARIAT Loop Applicator is
intended for aspiration and stabilization of tissue. when the
delivery of the LARIAT Suture Loop is done the LARIAT Loop
Applicator promotes suture installation and knot tying for use in
surgical treatments where soft tissue is being ligated with a
pre-tied polyester suture.
the possible mechanism of failure can be Soft tissue strength. the
suture can cut through the soft tissue to which it is tied. This
failure mechanism depends only on the suture, soft tissue and
surgical technique.
