Safe Harbour for Nurses Act

The New Mexico legislature passed a bipartisan Senate law for expanding the employment protection for Nurses , called ' The Safe Harbour for Nurses Act' . It is passed in the year 2019 January. It allowed the professional nurses to refuse the tasks under certain circumstances without the fear of adverse reactions or revenge from the employers.

Impact on Nursing practice :

This law is meant for protecting the employment opportunity for the nurses. The law recommends all the Healthcare facility to train and educate the nurses regarding the The Safe Harbour for Nurses Act and their right to refuse certain tasks , that she feels that , she lack the basic knowledge and skills to execute it, and also if she is not convinced about the medical reasonableness of a particular task , without fear of reprisal or retaliation from her employers. This law protects the Nurses from delivering unnecessary hatm to the patients and there by reducing the complications and also protecting herself from legal actions, in case of any adverse events in the hospitals.
