Every patient who comes to the medical office deserves to be provided professional, respectful care. They may express concern with the validity of the store bought machines and seek reassurance their testing is correct and reflecting true results. Think about what the patient would need to bring to the office for a complete and accurate comparison. Write a summary of the answer of this scenario;
Scenario: The patient questions the accuracy of the glucose readings obtained using their glucometer. The medical assistant requests that the patient bring their glucometer to the office so the results can be compared with the glucometer used by the clinic.
Glucometer are universally utilized in mamanagement of hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic disorders.Glucometer can only analyze whole blood, and glucose is unstable in whole blood.
Glucometer alow self monitoring of blood glucose in proper manner.Glucometer values so as to match the laboratory values of the blood glucose.there is a good correlation between different glucometer and laboratory values espesially in out patient settings.
HOW CAN CHECK ACCURACY OF GLUCOMETER READING
Check your blood sugar level with your meters at the same time that blood is drawn for lab test.Then compatre your meters reading with the lab results.Results that are within 15 percent of the lab reading are considered accurate.
eg : glucometer result of 100 mg/dL could vary on the downside to 80 mg/L or on the upside to 120mg/dL and still be considered accurate.
CAN GLUCOMETER GIVING WRONG ANSWER :The glucometer strip which contains delicate enzyme that can get spoilt and get spoiltand give wrong readings but glucometer are stable.so make sure you are using correct test strip.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GLUCOMETER AND LAB TEST :
Lab test generally demonstrate a higher level of accuracy than personal blood glucose meters but even these machines can have a slight margin of error.
