Is “retrospective” a type of study design? Why or why not?
We can consider a study design/research design as a blueprint set by the researcher to carryout the research. There are various study designs available and these designs will vary according to the type and nature of study.
The retrospective is one type of correlational research design/correlational study design, because in retrospective (looking back) research design we can find out the cause of a effect by analysing the currrent phenomenon with the past. For example , a retrospective correlational study on alcoholism related health complications amoung patients with liver cirrhosis in a hospital. In this study researcher first meet the liver cirrhosis patients and try to find out what all are the complications related to alcoholism.secondly, researcher can make assumptions about the outcome and exposure'
And it is less expensive as the outcome of the research depends upon the collection of data,no need for a large group of people, and there is no need for any interventions or experiments.
