Gross motor skills includes larger movements such as sitting, jumping and rolling whereas fine motor skills includes smaller movements such as finger movements, holding a cup, drawing , and movement of legs and arms. The major milestones that are exhibited by a healthy preschool child includes going up and down the stairs without support, kicking and throwing a ball, moving foreforand backwards with balance . The fine motor skills includes drawing circles , squares and a three part man, copying squares and capital letters. Language is developed to an extent that he or she peaks in sentences and tells stories. In the cognitive sense , they engage in fantasy play and recalls parts of stories. In order to develop their gross and fine motor skills , an environment which is free from hazards must be given for children for their physical and mental development and play needs. They must be given the freedom to take initiative and learn activities in the environment, and must engage in play structure that focus on developing an effective mind body coordination.
