QUESTION 1
How long? How much time in seconds does it take for the sled to go down part of a hill?
A sled with a total mass of 671 kilograms is going down a straight part of a hill where the angle of incline is 10.6 degrees.
The length of the straight part of the hill is 76.4 metres.
The speed of the sled at the top of the hill is 4 meters per second.
The combined forces of friction = the total friction including air drag and sliding friction = 43 newtons.
How much time does it take for the sled to travel down the straight part of the hill?
Note that the initial speed is NOT zero and so you will have to solve a quadratic equation to get your answer.
To calculate the time taken by the sled to travel the straight portion of the hill, we have to know to force acting on the sled in X and Y direction. Then using equation of kinematics we find the quadratic equation of t and solving this equation we can find time.
