3.Write in detail a global overview of existing regulations on nutrition labelling and claims?
Consumers will get information about the food they buy or consume from different sources like media , advertisement, friends etc, but the nutritional content and health labels are equally important from a health point of view.
People could manipulate the nutritional content and could promise people to get the desired health without the actual benefits. This should be looked into and a standard set of regulations should be framed. At a global level this regulatory environment is contained in the Codex Alimentarius. The aim is to protect the health of the consumer and develop fair food trade. The main gist is to prevent fraud and malpractices. Some of the countries have their own regulation, while some of them doesn't even have these regulations. But most of them follow the Codex Alimentarius.
Research have found that these are helpful in people concerned abouth their health and to know more about the food they buy. One disadvantage is the predominant use in diet conscious individuals.
Some countries promote the labelling of health effective labels of reducing disease risks . But they cannot effectively carry out the research to make sure these are true. Other countries are very strict about the wrong information and stringent actions against the wrong health guide. This subject is controversial.
The labelling and health claim differences in regulations are dependent on the countries where companies or people export to. But the nutritional labelling is moreover important than the health guidelines , which is controversial in most parts of the globe. The effectiveness of nutritional labelling and health claims helps educated public make healthy choices for the community and society in general.
In conclusion, it is helpful for the health conscious public for the future and proper guidelines and regulations must be developed as the main goal for all populations by maintaining long term dietary improvements.
