Compare and contrast 3 study approaches including advantages and disadvantages
The common 3 approaches to conduct any research or study are quantitative study, qualitative study and mixed methods.
Quantitative method
In this method data is collected measured and analysed in numbers and this data can be used to make predictions and to generalize results to wider population. Many methods can be used to collect quantitative data .for examples surveys, telephone inerviews, face to face interviews, controlled observations etc.
The main advantages of this study approach are:
1)data can be collected in real time 2)data can be collected by randomized odels which reduces the appearence of favouritism.3)more reliable
Some of the disadvantages are:
1)the study might be time consuming and expensive2)difficulty in analysing the data3)Improper target population
Qualitative method-
In this methods the non numerical data is being collected to understand the concept experience and opinions and the data can be used to gather indepth views into a problem or study
Advantages:
1) it provides more detailed content that can be useful for practical application 2)it eliminates the posibility for biaswithin the data 3)this method uses small size sample population
Disadvantages:
1)data analysing and interpretation may be time consuming 2)it relays on the experience of the researcher 3)it can create a wrong conclusion
Mixed method approach
In this approach researchers collect and analyse the information by both quantitative and qualitative method. It is the most preffered method.
Advantages:
1)more accurate.2)reserchers can generate and actually test a grounded theory 3)can use the stregth of one method to counter the weakness in other method
Disadvantages:
1)Using two approches in one study may be difficult for the researcher.2)the researcher need to learn about multiple methods and approaches and understand how to use then appropriately.3)more expensive and time consuming than any other method.
