In at least one paragraph answer the following prompts. Consider the gene for hairline which has two alleles, one for straight hairline and one for a widow's peak hairline. If a woman has both alleles in her body, what will her eggs contain? How does nondisjunction affect the gametes’ chromosome numbers?
Here the women has both alleles in her body.So the women is heterozygous with respect to the gene for hairline. She could produce egg containing either an allele for straight hairline or an allele for widows peak hairline.Egg contain haploid set of chromosomes.
Nondisjunction is the failure of paired chromosomes to separate and move to opposite poles of the spindle during cell division. Nondisjunction during meiosis results in one daughter cells having both chromosomes and the other having none.If nondisjunction occurs during meiosis I all the gametes produced will be aneuploid. If nondisjunction occurs during meiosis II then two cells will have normal haploid number of chromosomes and one will have an extra chromosome and one will be missing a chromosome.
