Expert Solution

1. C

Coenocytic means multinucleated. This type of condition is present in fungus belonging to the division zygomycota and oomycota. Multinucleated condition arise because the cells are not completely separated from each other. This type of fungus is aseptate.

But the question is asking about septate fungus which is having cell wall in between the cells. The cells are separated from each other. If the cell was were having less number of pores in between them, then the nucleus would not be able to flow from one cell to another. So the cell wall will have more number of pores in it.

With the help of these pores, cytoplasm will move from one cell to another and this is called cytoplasmic streaming. If the cell is having multiple nucleus and it is septate, then it will show higher rate of cytoplasmic streaming.

2. Karyogamy

Zygospore is a thick walled resistance for formed by the fusion of nucleus from two different fungal strains. This is a primitive type of sexual reproduction seen in the members of kingdom fungus. It is formed during unfavourable conditions. It is formed by karyogamy, which is the fusion of two haploid nuclei to result in the formation of one diploid nucleus. It is the opposite of process in which one diploid nucleus divides to form haploid nucleus.

1. We know fungi are eukaryotic (have membrane-bound nucleus and organelles). Explain three unique ways fungi are different from other microbes (algae, protozoans, bacteria and archaea). Compare things like cell walls, cell membranes, morphology, reproduction, life cycles. 2. Algae and protozoans are loosely grouped together as protozoans and are different from plants because they lack certain characteristics of plants. Explain what differentiates algae from plants and two ways they are different from protozoans. Talk about algae being part of our...

A stepladder consists of two sides of equal mass and a length of 3.7 m, and the two sides are connected by a rope fixed 1.2 m from the bottom of the ladder. When opened, the angle between the two sides of the ladder is 61°. The ladder stands on a frictionless horizontal floor. Determine the tension in the rope T and the reaction force at the top hinge if the total mass of the ladder is 17 kg. (Hint:...

A compound string is made by fusing together two wires of equal length and radius, but different materials: A and B. The mass density of material A is 9 times the mass density of material B. Under some unknown tension, the compound string is driven at increasing frequencies. At some unknown frequency, a standing wave is established with nodes at the ends of the compound string and at the interface between the two materials. Given that the tension is constant...

We wish to model a population of two fish species by a system of differential eqns. x′ = f(x,y), y′ = g(x,y). Provide a system of differential eqns. that describe the following assumptions: (a)(5) A predator-prey system in which prey can grow to no limits, but predators die out unless they find prey to eat. (b)(5) Two species which individually would die out but collaboration enhances survival of BOTH species. (c)(5) A predator-prey system in which prey can grow with...

Humerus bones from the same species of animal tend to have approximately the same length-to-width ratios. When fossils of humerus bones are discovered, archeologists can often determine the species of animal by examining the length-to-width ratios of the bones. It is known that species A has a mean of 8.5. Suppose forty-one fossils of humerus bones were unearthed at an archeological site in East Africa, where species A is believed to have inhabited. (Assume that the unearthed bones are all...

1.       You are planning to run a fermenter to produce antibiotics from fungi, using a fermentation broth that contains 15 wt% glucose, 6 wt% phosphate, 6 wt% nitrate, various trace nutrients, and water. At 8 a.m. the fermentor is filed with 6000mL broth and some antibiotic-producing fungi. Over the course of the fermentation, additional broth is pumped into the fermentor at 200 mL/h. 1. we discussed the variation among several species of (based on the geological dates we have covered) recent human species that do NOT include neanderthals. I would like for you to identify two, and write three to four bullet points to identify characteristics of each. 2. Next, tell me a bit about Neanderthals, and why they are more intelligent and social than stereotypes that exist in popular culture (think Geico commercials, cavemen, etc).
