Two routine messages, 400-500 words per message (800 to 1000 words total). Format: One routine negative message in the form of an internal memo. One routine positive message in the form of a blog post. Objective: To announce organizational restructuring, write one routine positive message addressed to investors, and one routine negative message addressed to employees. What’s the purpose of a routine positive or negative message? Like an internal memo, routine positive or negative messages function as short-form documents with a clear purpose and pertinent information. Positive and negative messages are similar in function, but add a unique rhetorical challenge in terms of audience: where the intended audience for a positive message is eager and interested in what you have to say, the audience for a negative message is instead anxious and unwelcoming. In both cases, delivering an effective message will require you to adapt what you’ve learned regarding tone, emphasis, and direct/indirect approaches. Assignment scenario: As the head of a business, you’ve decided that organizational restructuring is necessary in order for your company to stay solvent and adapt to changing market trends. Investors will be happy to hear about the restructuring and its long-term positive impact, but employees are anxious about impending layoffs. Using details provided below, prepare one positive message (blog message) addressed to investors and one negative message (internal memo) address to employees: Reasons for Restructuring Outdated business model Employees experiencing low morale Stakeholders/investors losing confidence Financial losses are becoming significant Company is less competitive in current market Corporate debt is becoming difficult to manage (Any additional reasons you’d like to include.) IMPACT OF RESTRUCTURING Many employees will be laid off New structure will require re-training employees Corporate interest payments will be reduced Many departments will become more efficient Underutilized assets/teams will be sold Company branding and marketing will be revitalized (Any additional outcomes you’d like to include.) The negative message should be in the form of a memo, addressed to "Employees". The Positive message should be in the form of a blog post, with an audience of investors. You’re welcome to use a direct approach for one message and an indirect approach for the other, or the same approach for both messages.
Memo to employees on restructuring.
Today we are glad to announce that the far most awaited deal on restructuring has been finalized.
With this deal we will be coming up as a new organization to the market, but this time we will be having more power in terms of assets and less weaknesses in terms of liabilities.
Since we are considering this option to restrict the company position we are also afraid to announce that there may be some of the layoff to suit the decision of restructuring.
Since we have choose to reconstruct this company we are adopting some new technology and closing some of the departments.
As of now we have a low position when it comes to the competition that we serve to the other firms in this market so we will make sure that we now have the latest technology and we would keep only those who can get themselves trained with the new technologies and help us in the company growth.
We, the board had a very challenging time these days and had choose to do a restructuring of the company to help it get out of the financial debts and have a great future.
