Describe what a biome is and compare and contrast two biomes of your choosing. Give examples of research questions someone could ask in one of the biomes you chose to describe. Give one research question that would look at 1) an individual, 2) a population, 3) a community, and 4) an ecosystem (develop one question for each).
The term biome is defined as a terrestrial or an aquatic region, which has a set of climatic conditions and a fauna of organisms. The terrestrial biomes are classified based on the temperature, precipitation, and species diversity. Deserts and rainforests are the two types of tropical biomes.
Deserts are the large, dry and arid regions with an average rainfall of 10 in. (25 cm) or less are known as deserts. The common characteristic of all deserts is the scarcity of water. Water lost by means of evaporation. The organic content in the soils is less. These characteristics of deserts allow the vegetation to survive with only certain special adaptations.
Tropical rainforests or the tropical wet forests is the oldest ecosystem formed 100 million years ago, located in the equatorial regions. The tropical rainforests are one of the major grassland ecosystems with poor soil abundance. The soils of tropical rainforests are poor because of leaching and fast soil decomposition. They have moderate rainfall and cool winters and hot summers so that they have the ability to support such diverse and abundant life.
Research questions about tropical rainforest biome:
1). What is the biggest tree in the tropical rainforest biome?
2). How the climate in tropical rainforest relate to its diversity
3). What are some of the problems that are faced by organisms living in that biome?
4). How the physical environment favours the various organisms grow in this biome?
