How and why do the barriers to entry vary among these different healthcare groups?
A. Barriers to entry for Hospitals are: Staff workload, workflow, physical structure , resources for medical treatment, lack of time for implementation, During transition from hospital to home patients experience individual health care provider, Organization level barriers , Infection control risk assessment ( ICRA) and essential services to allaall patients and employees.
B. Barriers to entry for physician practices are: Gatekeeper like administrative or front desk staff, competitions, start up costs, customer loyalty and high costs to change, patents, brand identity, existing government related restrictions or interventions , physician practice management and operational barriers.
C.Barriers to entry for Nursing homes are: Quality improvement, Management Organization, workforce shortages, high rates of staff turnover and the inability to move away from a punitive system, Fear of chastisement, perception of error, the threat of legal action, potential for negative publicity and regulatory crackdown.
D.Barriers to entry of health insurance companies are Adverse tiering, coinsurance, continuity of care, copay accumulators, high deductible plan,non medical switching, out of network charges, prior authorization and step therapy.
E.Barriers to entry of pharmaceutical companies are 1. Economies of scale. 2. Distribution network. 3. Brand name recognition. 4. Food and drug administration (FDA) approval 5. Approval on Abbreviated New Drug Applications ( ANDAs). 6. Activities report of the generic drugs program. 7. Research and development costs (R and D) 8. Intellectual property challenges. 9. Barriers to entry vary among different health care groups based upon factors like socioeconomic status, physician supply, policies and beliefs of a nation, risk behaviours of a population and health status.
