At a local hospital, a decision was made to downsize the nursing staff. The local television station sent a reporter and camera crew to interview the administrator regarding the impact of this action on patient care. After 20 minutes of filming the interview, the reporter left. Later that evening, the CEO received a call from the hospital’s public relations director, who directed her to YouTube. A video had been posted showing several nurses and former patients protesting the hospital’s decision in front of the hospital. The public relations director also directed the CEO to the new community blog called “SaveOurLovingNurses.com”. The CEO called a meeting for the next morning and wondered what happened? She asked the public relations director to provide an overview of what happened and present a brief plan. Present the overview and plan.
With reference to the decision related to the downsizing of the nurses, a reporter came to the organization, interviewed the different people including employees, nurses and the patients. Besides, the views of the former patients were also taken-up regarding the decision. It resulted in the form of an anxiety and dissatisfaction among the nurses as well as patients. With all these substances, reporter not only created the video and uploaded on YouTube, but also a report was published in the newspaper. After reading the news and follow ups, some people including the former patients starting protesting against the decision of the organization without knowing it properly.
In this scenario, there is a need of a plan that could eliminate the apprehensions of the different stakeholders. The details of the plan is as follows:
1. Bring clarity upon the organizational plan to the employees, including the nurseing staff and the need of change management.
2. The plan includes all the nursing staff given counseling and adequate training so that productivity and efficiency at work is improved. It can involve re-allocation to the new profiles to make proper use of human resources.
3. Citing the organizational resources and strong commitment to create value for the patients, either nursing staff can take voluntary exits or they can be awarded volunteering projects to take care of patients in different areas where the hospital is not present.
4. Create volunteers who can spread the positive objectives of the decision taken up by the management.
5. Alleviating all the concerns of the patients with better than ever services offered to them without any delay.
Above initiatives as a part of the plan will help eliminate the concerns of different parties.
