Following are several pairs of theories used to explain various phenomena. For each pair, determine (1) which theory is simpler and (2) which one is more conservative.

  1. Phenomenon: The sudden friendliness of the North Korean government toward the U.S.

    1. Theory 1: A big change in the leadership of the government.

    2. Theory 2: North Korea's realization that democratic capitalism is the way to go.
