Solutions

Expert Solution

1. The four main parts controlling the emotions are thalamus, hypothalamus, hippocampus and amygdala. These form part of lymbic system which regulates the emotions.

The amygdala plays an important part in regulating the emotions. When stimulated, it produces anger, aggression, violence, fear and anxiety. It is also commonly known as aggression center, helps in fight-flight response. When inhibited, it produces mellowing effect. Destruction of this bilaterally causes Kluver-Bucy syndrome. It is characterised by hyperorality, hypersexuality, reckless behaviour and disinhibition.

2. The answer is hippocampus. It is normally responsible for memory conversion. From short term to long term memory. Damage to it or it's impaired function is responsible for recalling, re-experiencing the past traumatic events in the patients with PTSD.
