Some seniors want to retire to communities that serve only seniors, the so-called 55+ communities. Others want to remain in the at-large mixed population, to interact with people of a variety of ages.
1. What are the pros and cons of each?
2. Which would you personally prefer to live in, and why?
3. If you were managing a senior services program, what would be the managerial challenges in each? How would you navigate those challenges?
4. In which environment would you prefer to manage senior services? Why?
1.Pros of 55+communities:the person can interact with the individuals of same age, same problems and they can talk to share their problem, to get emotional support sometimes. They can recognize people with same problem and how they overcome that problem in this age and many of them can be copied. The mindset of 55+people will be of same so that they can harness in the community.
Cons of 55+ communities :They always see the same mirror image in their colleagues so that their subconscious will be programmed in such a way that they cannot come out from a particular problem that they are suffering from because every time they are seeing, talking and thinking of their problems .
Pros of mixed community :every age group will be there so that young people can observe, learn and practice the good qualities of the elder ones. The elders can share their experiences to the youth so that it can be used as a capital for future. The young can take care of the elders since they will be suffering from various health issues. The elders can teach excellent life experiences to be youth so that it will help them in difficult times.Elders not only interact with the individuals of same age, but also with youngster so that the elder's mind will be young always.
Cons of mixed community :If the youngsters are not taking care of elders and they are not hearing elders, that may leads to misery for elders and sometimes depression.
2.Personally, I will prefer mixed community because if we see youngsters daily it will help our mind to be young always. It will give a positive energy for doing things.
3.The main challenges are health issues of the elders, nursing care of the bedridden citizens, financial challenges .We can address their health issues to the doctor and can take proper treatment. For this charity based trusts can arrange doctors services and the nursing care of the bedridden by appointment of home nurses. The financial challenge can be dealt with contributions from various corporates, various charity trusts and insurance.
4.If the retired senior citizens not taken care by their children can be considered for the services. Because otherwise their (senior citizen) life will be a mess.
