Express x²-5x+8 in the form of (x-a)²+b where a and b are top heavy fractions.

Express x²-5x+8 in the form of (x-a)²+b where a and b are top heavy fractions.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given Equation = x²-5x+8

Using complete square method

x²-5x+(5/2)²-(5/2)²+8

(x-5/2)²-(5/2)²+8

Combining the terms outside (a-b)² we will get,

(x-5/2)²-25/4+8

(x-5/2)²+7/4

Hence it is the required form.

Where the value of a nd b is -> 5/2 and 7/4.

In the form of (x-a)²+b it can be represented as ->

(x-5/2)²+7/4
