Answer: Katz activities of daily living referred as Katz ADL. It is the method of assessment of functional status that is the measurements and evaluation of patient's ability to perform the daily functioning and activities independently. It is used to provide better platform for the patients to enhance their daily functioning independently. It provides clinical recommendations to perform the task such as eating, walking, sleeping, grooming etc.

The Geriatric depression scale ( short term) is being used to assess and evaluate the depression level in the patient. The 15 item screening tool is used to recognise the depression in elder people. It also can be used in adults who are cognitively impaired. The scale represents score :

  • If the score is 5 or less it is normal
  • If the score is more than 5 it means that there are chances of depression.
  • If the score is 10 or above the person is in severe depression.
