Q1. Quickmeal

Description of data

Quickmeal is a local grocery shop that carries a limited variety of meat products, vegetable and fruits, dairy products, and beverages. The owner of Quickmeal, let’s call him John, wants to expand his business. John wants to understand the purchasing behaviour of his customers, so he can predict future demands. He recorded daily sales of products in June. The dataset is called “Quickmeal”, which is available in different formats. It shows the daily sales in Canadian Dollars for four different types of products. This is the structure of data:

Day

Day of the month

Meat

Sales of meat products in CAD

Bev

Sales of beverages in CAD (except dairy beverages)

FRVEG

Sales of all fruits and Vegetables in CAD

Dairy

Sales of all dairy products in CAD

Analyze data and help John to understand his customers. Label your graphs appropriately and provide full descriptions.

  1. Prepare histogram and boxplot for beverages. Copy your plots (Label them as Figure 4 and Figure 5). Comment on data distribution. Do you see any unusual case(s)? (Hint. Let software take care of plots.) (4 points)

Expert Solution

From histogram we observed that Sales of meat products in CAD (Meat) and Sales of all fruits and Vegetables in CAD (FRVEG) is positively skewed whereas Sales of beverages in CAD (Bev) and Sales of all dairy products in CAD (dairy) are symmetrically distributed.

From box plots we see that average sale of all fruits and Vegetables is higher than average sales of meat products in CAD. However average sales of beverages and dairy products in CAD are more or less same. Moreover sales of all fruits and Vegetables and sales of meat products in CAD are significantly higher than sales of beverages and dairy products in CAD.

Here we notice that data for sales of dairy product has no outliers, whereas data for other three products have outliers.

From above box plots we see that meat has maximum variation, dairy has smallest variation. However, variation of Bev and dairy are significantly low than meat and FRVEG.
