is physicians represent the artisan class?

Solutions

Expert Solution

No, the physicians do not belong to the artisan class. A physician will be considered as a professional because he/she have to work under a specific code of conduct. Physicians comes under the class of professionals in spite of artisans.

An artisan class is considered as the group of people skilled as craft workers. Their prime responsibility is to create and make material objects entirely or partly using hands. The artisan are divided into three subgroups. The highest level include the self-employed master craftspeople followed by the journeymen and apprentices. The artisans include skilled workers that are functional or decorative in nature. These items involve sculptures, clothing, jewelry, food items and furniture. Physicians cannot be categorized as artisans because they do not use any kind of hand skill in treating the patients. Even though they require specific education to reach the extent of knowledge they have but they prescribe medicines developed by medical companies and they work under a defined ethical code of conduct.
