1 . Standard of care is the standard of behaviour that the nurse is expected to conduct in healthcare setting. The nurse need to be aware of these standard of care as it is a legal concept. Nurses should use their skill and knowledge and be competent . These standards of care applies to the nurse in particular area in which they practice. For example- an ICU nurse cannot be compared to a public health nurse and their standard of care vary according to the settings in which they work with.
This ensures the quality of care to the patients and also the nurse will have certain code of ethics which he/she has to follow which gives organisational approach thus improving the health care standarad.
2 . Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ( HIPPA )was signed in the year 1996 by then President of United States of America . This act protects the health coverage for individuals who lose their job and this applies to people who are covered under this entity and to their business associates. It also provides the legal right to keep the health information of a person private and the patients have right to acess their health records.
