The following questions came in yesterday. Your firm has a policy of returning calls within 24 hours which is one of the reasons that your firm is so popular. Your firm has an intern from ASU. Normally, you would pass these questions to the intern because they are not overly complicated. Your billing rate is $100 per hour for general consulting work, so it is expected that you would only work directly on complicated problems. The billing rate for interns is twice the intern’s rate of pay, which can be profitable. You personally review all answers before the answers are sent to clients.
The intern is taking a mental health weekend at Padre Island. So, you must answer these questions yourself. That would be good from a firm income standpoint, except your time might be better spent attending an executive seminar where you could meet new wealthy clients.

determination of whether they should consider their extra income as a hobby or business:
Basically, the IRS determines the hobby is operated as a business and should be taxed accordingly, if you have made a profit from the business in two (2) out of the past five (5) years, which includes the current tax year
3) Anything received from family is not related to taxability of income. Mother giving money to son is not income of son.
